History

The Interface Society began in the summer of 1985. Its 8 initial members came from many walks of Louisville's business life; attorneys, CPA's, sales professionals, private business owners, and members of the insurance and real estate industry.
One founder came from the then burgeoning world of computers and suggested our group's name which meant, to us, a point of interaction between individuals.

Business networking was our original goal but the Interface quickly grew to include community involvement as a worthy pursuit. We decided to award college scholarships to certain students that otherwise might not be qualified in the view of other sources but that their teachers and principals felt deserved assistance. To date we have aided over 20 young people with 4 years of financial help.

Other Interface interests have included micro loans to business and non-profit startups and many charitable contributions: Wayside Christian Mission, The Family Place, the Youth Chorus of St. Francis in the Fields Church, Beacon House, Valley Sports Little League, The Filson Historical Society, The Louisville Zoo, Youth Alive, and others have received assistance.

One of our most enduring projects was a contest we created and sponsored in 2001 among art students in the Jefferson County Public School System. We wanted artwork suitable for outdoor media that would convey a powerful anti-drug message. A winner was judged and awarded a $1000 cash prize and the result can still be seen 10 years later on outdoor billboards as an ongoing community service message.

The Interface Society has, from the beginning, invited speakers to our monthly meetings. Our guests have included politicians, businessmen, sports figures, educators, artists, community activists, and other representatives of Louisville life. As a way of expressing thanks for their time and knowledge, we make a gift to the charity of their choice.

Today, over 25 years later, the Interface Society remains very active and is still growing with over 40 members from all adult age groups. We still share our original goals of friendship, the exchange of knowledge, and community involvement.
